Through memory and note taking exercises, consecutive with and without notes, the applicant will progressively learn how to do a consecutive, use the adequate register and the right presentation technique. The training will focus on how to provide an accurate consecutive interpretation into A or B language.

Applicants will learn how to analyze the speaker message, to prioritize information and activate short memory. How to anticipate and interpret with confidence will also be taught. We will focus on accuracy (conveying the message), delivery (use the proper tone and intonation) and target language (use correct grammar and make the right word choices). Training will also include simultaneous with texts and sight translation.

Assessments of the level of the C language will be done at the beginning. Applicants will learn how to interpret with accuracy and the right delivery speeches from their C to their active language. Once problems are identified, individual sessions could also be organized.

AIt is about equipping practicing interpreters or academic staff with pedagogical skills and expertise to train professional interpreters in order to sustain the profession through quality interpreter training in the African context.

The International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) defines a ‘B’ language as ‘a language other than the interpreter's native language, of which she or he has a perfect command and into which she or he works from one or more of her or his other languages. Some interpreters work into a 'B' language in only one of the two modes of interpretation.’ aiic.org
